LABUAN, 17 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today officiated the launch of the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) ANKA-S for the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (RMAF) No. 11 Squadron at Labuan Air Base, marking the asset’s official entry into service.
According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia, the deployment of the UAS MALE ANKA-S is expected to significantly enhance the country’s maritime surveillance capabilities through the continuous execution of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
The system is capable of monitoring operational areas for up to 24 hours under various weather conditions, both day and night, to help safeguard the security and sovereignty of Malaysia’s waters.
During the visit, Mohamed Khaled also toured the Data Exploitation Centre (DEC) and witnessed an operational demonstration of the UAS MALE ANKA-S.

The ministry said the introduction of the new asset reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening national maritime readiness in line with the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s CAP55 Capability Development Plan and the National Defence Strategic Procurement Plan (PSPN) under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12).
The commissioning of the ANKA-S marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s efforts to modernise its defence assets and enhance its surveillance capabilities amid evolving regional security challenges. – The Capital Post
