LUMUT, 20 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has taken its first step towards establishing a Cyber Force as the fourth service branch of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to strengthen national defence against cyber and electromagnetic threats.
Defence Minister YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin launched the Cyber Force Nucleus Team during the ATM’s 93rd anniversary celebration at the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) base in Lumut, Perak, on Saturday (19 September).
The nucleus team will establish the structures, processes and integration required ahead of the full formation of the Cyber Force as part of ATM’s future force development and transformation.
The initiative responds to changes in the modern operational environment and the growing need for joint capabilities in cyber and electromagnetic domains.
It will also involve cooperation with the local defence industry and the development of specialised talent in cyber and electromagnetic fields.

During the same event, Mohamed Khaled presented a symbolic RM442,000 contribution under the KEMENTAH MADANI Jiwa Murni Programme 2026 to the Perak state government.
Welfare packages under the Jelajah Wira Madani programme were also presented to 361 recipients comprising personnel from the Lumut naval base and their next of kin.
Also present were Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Malek Razak bin Sulaiman; Defence Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali; Chief of Army General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Azhan bin Haji Md Othman; Chief of Navy Admiral Tan Sri (Dr.) Zulhelmy bin Ithnain; and Chief of Air Force General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Muhamad Norazlan Aris TUDM.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Defence Malaysia, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen ATM’s readiness for digital-era warfare while developing future defence capabilities. – The Capital Post
