SUNGAI PETANI: A 40-year-old hawker from Gurun today pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to two counts of sexually assaulting his teenage daughter.

The accused made the plea before Judge Azman Abu Hassan via a video call proceeding as he is under quarantine at the Kuala Muda police headquarters for being a close contact to a Covid-19 patient.
On the first count, the accused pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault on his daughter at their home in Gurun, about 3am on Dec 25, 2020.
The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping.

The accused also pleaded guilty to committing a similar offence on his daughter at their house about 5.30pm on June 25, 2021.
Kuala Muda police prosecution officer, Assistant Superintendent Mohd Fakruzi Ismail prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
Judge Azman denied and set Nov 24 for mention pending the medical report.-NST
