MELAKA: A 55-year old man allegedly slapped and taunted a policeman during a roadblock operation at the Alor Gajah-Malacca-Jasin (AMJ) – Malim Jaya Highway here, yesterday.
Central Melaka police chief assistant commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said the man was detained, charged and remanded for four days.
He said the suspect, who was driving a Proton Iswara Aeroback, swerved into the emergency lane as the roadblock had caused traffic congestion, at 1.30pm yesterday.
“The police, after learning about the man’s actions, instructed him to turn back into the main road.
“The suspect, dissatisfied with the order, spewed offensive and insulting remarks towards a policeman, who then ordered the suspect to park his car to the side of the road.
“When the policeman turned to speak to the suspect who was next to him, the man landed a slap on the left side of the policeman’s face.
“The police detained the suspect, who was then taken to the Malim police station for further action,” he said in a statement.
Afzanizar said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of two years, or a fine, or both if convicted, in addition to Rule 11, Regulations for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Controlled Infections) 2020.
