SEBERANG PERAI, 20 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) conducted site visits to sewerage and flood mitigation infrastructure in Penang on Monday (19 October) as part of efforts to strengthen government asset management.

The visits followed PETRA’s Government Asset Management Committee (JKPAK) meeting for the third quarter of 2026, held at the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) office in Seberang Perai Tengah.

The meeting was chaired by PETRA Senior Undersecretary (Management) Dato’ Mohd Norhisham Musa and attended by representatives from the ministry’s divisions, units and departments.

Following the meeting, officials visited three locations to assess infrastructure conditions, maintenance requirements and asset management challenges.

The first visit covered the upgrading of the Mak Mandin Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and the construction of a sewerage pipeline network within the Butterworth North catchment area.

Officials also inspected a decommissioned sewage treatment plant under the Sewerage Services Department (JPP).

The final visit involved the Mak Mandin Pump House, which forms part of the Mak Mandin Flood Mitigation Project managed by JPS.

The inspections focused on evaluating the physical condition, utilisation and maintenance of government assets, particularly infrastructure supporting environmental protection and flood risk reduction.

PETRA emphasised that effective asset management requires oversight throughout an asset’s life cycle, from acquisition and operation to maintenance and disposal.
