BEDONG, 7 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a total of RM26 million in government support for AIMST University, a higher education institution owned by the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), during a visit to the campus in Bedong, Kedah.
Speaking at the annual Government Grant Handover Ceremony and a dialogue session with students, Anwar said national development must go beyond economic growth and investment figures, emphasising that justice, equality and opportunities for all Malaysians remain essential measures of progress.
He said Malaysia must continue to uphold the principles of fairness and inclusivity, citing the contributions of social reformer Dr B.R. Ambedkar and the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi on justice, human dignity and moderation.
The Prime Minister also called on young Malaysians to reject politics based on hatred and racial divisions, and instead help build the country’s future through knowledge, unity and social justice.

During the event, Anwar confirmed the MADANI Government would maintain its annual RM25 million allocation to AIMST University and approved an additional RM1 million grant to help more students from lower-income families gain access to higher education.
He also paid tribute to the late Tun S. Samy Vellu for his role in the establishment of AIMST University, describing education as a key pathway for uplifting individuals, communities and the nation. – The Capital Post.
