KUALA LUMPUR, 16 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Volvo Car Malaysia has introduced the Selamat Calculator, an interactive self-assessment tool developed in collaboration with Mr Money TV, aimed at encouraging Malaysians to reflect on the emotional and financial impact their absence could leave behind.

The initiative forms part of Volvo Car Malaysia’s ongoing Selamat campaign, which seeks to transform road safety from merely a regulatory obligation into a shared culture of responsibility and awareness.

The Selamat Calculator guides users through a series of questions related to age, income, dependants, lifestyle, and personal commitments before generating a personalised safety risk profile alongside an estimation of the financial and emotional consequences their absence may cause.

Participants are categorised into four life-stage profiles: the backbone of the family, the co-pilot in a partnership, the independent soloist with a future ahead, and the climber who has worked tirelessly to build their current life. The assessment aims to remind users that the effects of road accidents extend far beyond a single moment, impacting futures, relationships, and responsibilities left behind.

Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, Patricia Yaw, said the initiative was not designed to place a monetary value on life but to encourage Malaysians to appreciate the importance of their presence to loved ones.

“Nothing is worth more than your life, but there are still times when we forget and take our safety for granted – drivers are humans after all. The Selamat Calculator isn’t meant to put a price on a life, but to act as a gentle reminder to appreciate the value of our presence and what stands to be lost in our absence,” she said.

Meanwhile, CEO and Co-Founder of Mr Money TV, Peter Yong, highlighted that financial literacy also involves understanding the importance of safety and wellbeing.

“We often prioritise luxuries while overlooking the silent investments that keep us around to enjoy them. The Selamat Calculator serves as a wake-up call, encouraging reflection on what truly matters,” he said.

The calculator complements the Selamat Driving Experience, which is scheduled to take place from 16 to 17 May 2026. Both initiatives are part of Volvo’s broader mission to reinforce road safety awareness among Malaysian drivers.

Yaw added that the word “Selamat” reflects both Volvo’s brand philosophy and the Malaysian spirit of wishing safety upon others.

“In every ‘Selamat’ we say, there’s a quiet wish that our loved ones arrive, live and return safely. We want to be part of the moment that matters most: the journey home,” she said.
