100,000 Malaysians Offered Free Coursera Access for Digital Skills

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Digital Ministry is providing 100,000 Malaysians with free access to more than 16,000 Coursera courses and professional certificate programmes as part of efforts to strengthen digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills nationwide.

The initiative, introduced through the Rakyat Digital ecosystem, offers eligible Malaysians with MyDigital ID three months of free access to courses covering AI, technology, data science, business and digital literacy.

The government-funded Global Learning Pass is being rolled out in phases, supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become an AI-driven nation by 2030.

Digital Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar highlighted the initiative during a media briefing with Coursera in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (8 October).

Also present were Coursera Global Head of Enterprise Anthony Salcito, Coursera Asia-Pacific Managing Director Ashutosh Gupta and MyDIGITAL Corporation Chief Executive Officer Adrian Marcellus.

The programme has recorded encouraging participation during its first three weeks, with 12,900 participants registering for a total of 43,000 courses.

Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Perak recorded the highest participation rates.

Among the available courses, Understanding Digital Transformation emerged as the most popular. The course was specifically developed by the Digital Ministry through MyDIGITAL Corporation using Coursera’s Course Builder platform.

The initiative supports the Malaysia Digital Action Plan 2030 (MD2030) and the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 through an approach focused on awareness, access and adoption.

It aims to equip Malaysians with practical digital and AI capabilities that can be applied in education, employment and business while preparing them for changes in the labour market.
