AYER KEROH, 6 November 2026 (The Capital Post) – A total of 580 emergency water pumps have been prepared nationwide as Malaysia strengthens its flood response readiness ahead of the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon season.
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), said 366 pumps have already been deployed to strategic locations, while another 214 units remain on standby for mobilisation when required.
The preparations were reviewed during the DID Asset Readiness Meeting for the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon Flood Season, held at the department’s Melaka office in Ayer Keroh on 5 November.
The meeting was chaired by PETRA Senior Undersecretary (Management) Dato’ Mohd Norhisham Musa, with representatives from state DID offices and the department’s Mechanical and Electrical Services Division in attendance.
The discussions focused on ensuring that emergency equipment, machinery and operational teams remain prepared to respond to potential flooding during the monsoon season.
PETRA said flood preparedness measures also include operational vehicles, machinery, water control systems and continuous monitoring of flood-prone areas.

These efforts are supported by flood forecasting and early warning systems to enable authorities to identify potential risks and coordinate emergency responses more effectively.
The ministry emphasised that regular monitoring and coordination are essential to ensuring that flood response assets remain operational and can be deployed promptly when needed.
Members of the public are also encouraged to use the Public InfoBanjir application to obtain updated information on river water levels, rainfall and flood warnings, allowing them to take precautionary measures.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Peralihan Tenaga dan Transformasi Air, PETRA and DID will continue monitoring operational readiness to minimise the impact of potential flooding and safeguard public safety during the Northeast Monsoon season – The Capital Post
