SEREMBAN, 6 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— A woman was fined RM1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to allowing her underage son to drive a car that was later involved in a crash which killed three teenagers.
The court ruled that the 40-year-old woman had permitted her 17-year-old son to drive her vehicle along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 at the Taman Matahari Heights intersection at about 8.30pm on March 6 last year.
Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah imposed the RM1,500 fine, with a three-month jail term in default if the accused fails to pay the penalty.
The woman was charged under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both upon conviction.
According to the facts presented in court, the teenager had run a red light before crashing into two motorcycles. The accident resulted in the deaths of three teenagers aged between 15 and 17.

During mitigation, defence counsel appealed for leniency, stating that the accused was a single mother who supports six children and elderly parents. She was also described as a first-time offender who had cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation.
However, the prosecution urged the court to impose a heavier penalty, noting that the tragic incident had resulted in multiple fatalities and highlighting the importance of safeguarding public safety.
The teenager involved had earlier claimed trial to reckless driving but later changed his plea to guilty in December last year. Sentencing in his case has been scheduled for a later date pending a social report from the Welfare Department.
The case has renewed attention on the dangers of underage driving and the responsibility of parents or guardians in preventing minors from operating vehicles on public roads.-The Capital Post
