Malaysia’s Manufacturing Sales Reach RM169.4 Billion in January, Up 7.1%

KUALA LUMPUR ,10 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- Malaysia’s manufacturing sector recorded a 7.1% year-on-year increase in sales value to RM169.4 billion in January 2026, supported by continued growth across several key industries.

According to data released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the expansion was driven mainly by the electrical and electronics (E&E), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products, as well as food, beverages and tobacco sub-sectors.

The E&E segment remained a major contributor to the sector’s performance, reflecting sustained demand for semiconductor-related products and other electronic components. Meanwhile, petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products also recorded solid growth, supported by steady industrial activity and export demand.

DOSM noted that the food, beverages and tobacco segment continued to show resilience, contributing to the overall increase in manufacturing sales during the month.

On a month-on-month basis, manufacturing sales rose compared with December 2025, indicating a steady start to the year for the sector despite ongoing global economic uncertainties.

The data highlights the continued importance of manufacturing as a key pillar of Malaysia’s economy, with strong performances in export-oriented industries helping to sustain growth momentum at the start of 2026.-The Capital Post
