Kota Kinabalu 4 May 2026 (The Capital Post) – Sabah’s tourism sector continues to demonstrate resilience despite ongoing global uncertainties, including the Middle East conflict, as long as industry players and policymakers remain adaptive, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Speaking at the opening of the Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, Hajiji expressed confidence in the state’s tourism outlook, highlighting strong investor interest and continued development in the sector.
He noted that several hotel projects currently in progress are expected to add about 2,740 rooms to Sabah’s accommodation capacity, signalling sustained growth momentum and readiness for increased visitor arrivals.
Hajiji said these developments will support preparations for Visit Sabah Year 2027, while also aligning with broader national tourism initiatives. He added that the state government is actively refining strategies to ensure Sabah remains competitive in the global tourism market.
Among the key efforts outlined are strengthening partnerships with international airlines to improve connectivity, enhancing tourism products, raising service standards, and organising high-value events to attract visitors.

The Chief Minister emphasised that adaptability and innovation are essential for the industry to navigate external challenges, noting that tourism remains a vital contributor to Sabah’s economy.
He added that continued investment and coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors will be crucial in sustaining growth and positioning Sabah as a leading regional destination.
