KUALA LUMPUR 1 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – A 31‑year‑old technician was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on Wednesday after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 15‑year‑old girl at a bus stop in a conviction that highlighted concerns over child safety in public spaces.
Sessions Court judge Noor Azian Alias handed down the sentence after finding Technician Baharuddin Ahmad guilty of the offence, which occurred at a bus stop in the Klang Valley late last year. The victim was waiting for transport when Baharuddin allegedly approached her and committed the assault before fleeing the scene.
During proceedings, the court heard that the accused had initially denied the charge but was subsequently identified through CCTV footage and witness statements that placed him at the scene. Prosecutors described the attack as predatory behaviour that preyed on a vulnerable minor.
Baharuddin’s defence counsel had argued for a more lenient penalty, citing the accused’s prior clean record and claims of remorse, but the judge determined that the severity of the offence and the age of the victim warranted a substantial custodial sentence to serve as a deterrent.

The sentencing comes amid broader calls from child protection advocates for enhanced measures to safeguard minors, with stakeholders urging authorities to increase patrols and safety protocols in areas where young people commonly gather.
The defendant will serve his sentence at a correctional facility and was also ordered to undergo offender rehabilitation programmes.-The Capital Post
