SINGAPORE 9 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Around 150 residents were safely evacuated from a condominium in Choa Chu Kang in the early hours of Thursday after a fire erupted on one of the upper floors, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received the alert at approximately 4.50 am and quickly mobilised firefighting units to the scene at Block 52 Choa Chu Kang North 6, a location identified online as part of the Yew Mei Green condominium development.

Firefighters determined that the blaze originated within the furnishings of a bedroom on the third floor. The team brought the fire under control using a combination of a water jet and a compressed air foam trolley, successfully preventing further spread.

As a precautionary measure, police and SCDF personnel evacuated all residents from the affected block, ensuring people were moved to safety before the situation was fully contained. Two individuals were examined for possible smoke inhalation but refused hospital transfer after assessment at the scene.

SCDF noted that the fire was likely caused by an electrical fault in the bedroom, with investigations ongoing, and reminded the public to regularly check electrical appliances and wiring to help reduce fire risks in residential buildings.-The Capital Post
