KUALA TERENGGANU 15 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – A civil servant has lost more than RM53,000 after being cheated in a series of three separate scams involving a fake car purchase, a bogus consultant, and an online loan scheme.

The victim was initially drawn in after seeing a Facebook advertisement offering a car for sale. After contacting the seller, he proceeded to make multiple payments to several different bank accounts, believing the transaction was legitimate.

However, after realising the purchase was fraudulent, the victim sought help online and was subsequently approached by an individual claiming to be a consultant who could assist in recovering the lost money. The victim then made another payment to the suspect for supposed recovery services.

In a further attempt to solve his financial difficulties, the victim later applied for an online loan and ended up transferring additional funds to a separate syndicate, which promised financial assistance but did not exist.

Authorities said the victim only realised he had been scammed after the repeated transactions, leading to a total loss of RM53,035.49. A police report has since been lodged, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Police have once again urged the public to be cautious when dealing with online advertisements, especially those involving high-value purchases, and to verify all financial transactions through official channels to avoid falling victim to similar scams.-The Capital Post
