Kuala Lumpur, 4 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Kuala Lumpur is strengthening its position as a leading global tourism destination following a strategic meeting between key stakeholders aimed at improving safety, organisation, and overall visitor experience in the capital.

According to an official Facebook post by the Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia (MOTAC), the discussion was chaired by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, together with YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories). The meeting also involved Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and several enforcement agencies to align efforts in enhancing the city’s tourism ecosystem.

Also present were YBrs. Encik Chua Choon Hwa, Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism) of MOTAC, and Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur, YBhg. Dato’ TPr. Fadlun bin Mak Ujud, along with senior officials from MOTAC.

Among the key matters discussed was the issue of “photographer touts” in popular tourist areas. The government is considering the introduction of designated zones and a licensing mechanism for street photographers to ensure activities are more structured, regulated, and professional, while maintaining a smooth experience for visitors.

Safety and security were also a major focus, with proposals to integrate up to 10,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) units across Kuala Lumpur. The initiative is expected to strengthen real-time monitoring and improve response efficiency by enforcement agencies in addressing potential risks within the city.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment to positioning Kuala Lumpur as a safer, more organised, and globally competitive tourism city through continued collaboration between MOTAC, DBKL, and relevant enforcement agencies. -The Capital Post
