BUKIT KAYU HITAM, 10 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the official opening of the new road alignment connecting the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Malaysia and the Sadao Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Thailand.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the new road link reflects the shared determination of both countries to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade and improve cross-border movement for the benefit of their people.
He said Bukit Kayu Hitam–Sadao remains the busiest land trade gateway between Malaysia and Thailand, and improvements to the border infrastructure are expected to accelerate economic growth while creating wider opportunities for businesses and local communities.
During the meeting with Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, both leaders also agreed to expedite the development of the Border Special Economic Zone, resolve outstanding technical issues and strengthen efforts towards achieving the bilateral trade target of USD30 billion by 2027.

The enhanced cooperation is expected to generate broader economic benefits for several Malaysian states, including Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Perak and Kelantan, through increased trade, investment, logistics, tourism and employment opportunities.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Anwar Ibrahim, the collaboration reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to ensuring that strategic bilateral partnerships deliver tangible benefits to the people while strengthening peace, prosperity and shared economic growth between Malaysia and Thailand.-The Capital Post.
