KOTA BHARU, 24 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Malaysia Techlympics 2026 East Coast Zone 2.0 programme drew 1,061 participants from Kelantan, highlighting efforts to promote science, technology and innovation (STI) among the younger generation.
MOSTI Deputy Secretary-General (Science Planning and Culture) YBhg. Datin Safida Zalma binti Mohd Piah attended the programme, which was held at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) on 23 August 2026.
In his opening remarks, Kelantan Deputy State Executive Councillor for Education, Higher Education, Green Technology, Digital and Innovation YB Haji Kamaruzaman bin Muhammad said the main objective of Malaysia Techlympics was to cultivate STI through hands-on activities and experiential learning, particularly among pupils, students and youths.
The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), aims to nurture young people’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Through engaging competitions, the programme seeks to develop critical thinking, high-impact skills and meaningful innovation among youths.

In line with MOSTI’s commitment to strengthening STI, the programme also exposes participants to emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), coding, computing and drone technology.
The initiative is considered increasingly relevant as technologies such as AI continue to develop rapidly and become more widely used in various aspects of daily life.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Malaysia Techlympics programme is aimed at encouraging young people to embrace STI through practical and experiential learning. – The Capital Post
