SINGAPORE, Friday, 12 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia continues to play a leading role in shaping the future of regional tourism through sustainable development initiatives and stronger cross-border cooperation at the 64th ASEAN National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) Meeting and Related Meetings held in Singapore from 9 to 10 July 2026.
According to a post by Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia on its official Facebook page, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), YBhg. Dato’ Shaharuddin Abu Sohot led the Malaysian delegation to the regional meetings, which brought together ASEAN tourism leaders to discuss strategies for strengthening the tourism sector.
As the Co-Coordinator for Sustainable Tourism under the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030, Malaysia presented updates on collective sustainability efforts across the region while highlighting initiatives led by the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Working Group on Tourism.
The engagement also saw Malaysia recognising the contributions of key international organisations and industry partners, including Agoda, AirAsia MOVE, ASEANTA, ATRA, US-ABC, ERIA, WTTC, IATA and Grab, for their continued support in advancing innovation, resilience and connectivity within the ASEAN tourism ecosystem.

During the 35th ASEAN-India Working Group Meeting, Malaysia also shared key outcomes and successes from the ASEAN Tourism Crisis Communication (ATCC) Forum, which was hosted in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year.
Looking ahead, Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional tourism collaboration during the 49th ASEAN NTOs Plus Three Meeting by extending an invitation to ASEAN Member States, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea to participate in the upcoming ASEAN-China Tourism Dialogue scheduled to take place in Langkawi on 22 and 23 July 2026.
The continued cooperation among ASEAN members reflects a shared commitment towards building a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive tourism sector that benefits communities across the region. – The Capital Post
