BUKIT KAYU HITAM, Friday, 12 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Thailand have strengthened cross-border connectivity with the official opening of a new road link connecting the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, with the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Sadao, Thailand.
According to a post by Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) on its official Facebook page, the new route was officially launched today by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul during a ceremony held at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
The opening of the new route marks an important milestone in enhancing cross-border connectivity between Malaysia and Thailand, while facilitating smoother movement of people and goods as well as supporting economic growth in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, along with members of the Malaysian delegation, including Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Economy Minister Mohd Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, KDN Secretary-General Datuk Dr Awang Alik bin Jeman, and Kedah State Secretary Dato’ Seri Hj Norizan Sazali.

KDN, together with relevant agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Immigration Department of Malaysia and the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), remains committed to ensuring the new route operates smoothly, safely and efficiently.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen service delivery at Malaysia’s border entry points while deepening strategic cooperation and bilateral ties between Malaysia and Thailand. – The Capital Post
