KOTA BHARU, 16 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The upgrading of Federal Roads FT209 and FT131 (Jalan Raja Perempuan Zainab II) from the Pasir Hor Interchange to Panchor is on track for completion by 8 September 2027, according to the Ministry of Works (KKR).
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi inspected the RM191 million project during a working visit on Wednesday. The 6.0-kilometre project has achieved 71.61 per cent physical progress to date.
The project is considered a key infrastructure initiative to ease severe daily traffic congestion along the existing route linking Kubang Kerian, Sabak and Pengkalan Chepa, which currently operates at Level of Service (LOS) F.
Traffic congestion has been attributed to the narrow road alignment and the presence of schools, commercial centres and Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) along the route. The road also serves as a major link to the Pengkalan Chepa industrial area and Sultan Ismail Petra Airport.

The road upgrade aims to reduce congestion on Federal Road FT131, shorten travel times and provide safer and more comfortable road infrastructure while accommodating increasing traffic volumes driven by rapid development in Kubang Kerian, the second-largest township in Kota Bharu.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, the project reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to delivering efficient and inclusive infrastructure that supports local socio-economic growth, with KKR and the Public Works Department (JKR) continuing to prioritise high-impact projects that benefit the public. – The Capital Post.
