Malaysia, Australia Strengthen Online Safety Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on online safety following a bilateral meeting held at Menara Komunikasi on 15 July.

The Malaysian delegation was led by the Ministry of Communications’ Deputy Secretary-General (Telecommunications Infrastructure), Mano Verabathran.

The meeting followed the Malaysia–Australia Online Safety Regulation Workshops 2026 and focused on sharing experiences and regulatory approaches adopted by both countries to enhance online safety.

Among the key issues discussed were the implementation of Malaysia’s Online Safety Act 2025, social media age verification measures, and efforts to strengthen the protection of children from online risks.

Both countries also expressed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on online safety, covering information sharing, capacity building and technical collaboration.
