UNITED KINGDOM, 24 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is exploring strategic cooperation with Airbus Defence and Space to strengthen Malaysia’s defence satellite capabilities and space technology development.
MINDEF Secretary-General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali and delegation members conducted an industry visit to Airbus Defence and Space’s facility in Stevenage, United Kingdom, as part of efforts to identify potential areas of collaboration.
The engagement focused on strengthening the country’s defence satellite communication capabilities, including long-term planning for the Malaysian Armed Forces’ (ATM) X-Band Satellite System.
Discussions also covered the implementation of the Industrial Cooperation Programme (ICP), aimed at expanding technology transfer, developing highly skilled human capital and increasing local industry participation in the global aerospace and defence value chain.

MINDEF said the visit further strengthened Malaysia’s defence diplomacy through closer cooperation with international strategic industry partners, while supporting the development of a more competitive, high-technology and sustainable national defence industry ecosystem.
Also present were Coalition of Defence Industry Malaysia (CDIM) President Dato’ Nonee Ashirin Mohd Radzi and National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO) Chief Executive Prof. Ts. Dr. Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah.
