PUTRAJAYA, July 28, 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s natural resources by strengthening enforcement coordination against environmental crimes, including illegal logging, pollution and unlawful mining activities.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Arthur Joseph Kurup chaired the 3rd NRES Special Enforcement Task Force Meeting, where members reviewed current issues affecting the sustainability of Malaysia’s natural resources.
Among the key issues discussed were forest encroachment, environmental pollution, illegal mining and other offences that threaten the nation’s natural heritage.

During the visit, the minister also toured the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM) War Room, which is equipped to monitor and detect illegal activities within Permanent Reserved Forests.
Arthur said the meeting served not only as a platform to identify emerging challenges but also to strengthen coordination and cooperation among agencies under NRES, enabling enforcement actions to be carried out more efficiently, swiftly and comprehensively.
He expressed confidence that consistent enforcement, strong inter-agency coordination and the commitment of all stakeholders are essential to safeguarding Malaysia’s natural heritage for future generations.
