KUALA LUMPUR, July 29, 2026 (The Capital Post) – The 35th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM35) was officially launched on Tuesday, celebrating the diversity of Malaysia’s film industry while inviting filmmakers nationwide to compete across 30 award categories.
The festival was launched by Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, at Aurum Theatre, TRX Mall.
Carrying the theme “Spectrum Sinema”, FFM35 aims to celebrate the richness of Malaysia’s cinematic landscape, encompassing diverse genres, cultures, languages, perspectives, technologies and generations of filmmakers while strengthening the identity of the national film industry.

Submissions for FFM35 will be open from July 29 to August 11, 2026, with film producers and industry players invited to submit their entries.
The FFM35 Awards Night is scheduled to take place on November 21, 2026, at Panggung Sari, Istana Budaya.
Among those present at the launch were National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Chairman Datuk Dr. Hans Isaac, FINAS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib and Golden Screen Cinemas Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Koh Mei Lee.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Komunikasi, FFM35 seeks to recognise excellence in Malaysian filmmaking while promoting creativity and innovation across the country’s film industry. – The Capital Post
