PUTRAJAYA, 17 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Congestion (JK-MKKJR), YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, today chaired the committee’s first meeting of 2026 to strengthen strategic coordination among ministries, agencies, employers and the public in addressing road safety and congestion.
The meeting focused on traffic dispersal plans and public transport integration ahead of the operation of the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link.
The committee also reviewed road accident fatalities recorded in 2025, which stood at 6,537 deaths, with motorcycle riders and pillion passengers accounting for about 66 per cent of the total.
To achieve the target of reducing road accident fatality rates by 50 per cent by 2030 and minimise socioeconomic losses estimated at RM30 billion, the Government is intensifying targeted interventions.

These include strengthening the Ops Cegah programme in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Road Transport Department (JPJ), as well as the phased implementation of the Road Safety Framework (SAFERO) programme to enhance the competency of heavy vehicle drivers.
The Government-wide (Whole-of-Government) and society-wide (Whole-of-Society) approaches will continue to be strengthened to transform the road safety culture and ensure every intervention delivers a high impact in saving lives.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Ministry of Transport Malaysia, the meeting reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening coordinated efforts to address road safety and congestion nationwide. – The Capital Post
