KUALA LUMPUR, 18 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – More than 2,000 members of Malaysia’s engineering profession are attending the National Engineering Convention 2026 (NEC 2026), organised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (LJM) at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur from August 17 to 20.
Held under the theme “Engineering with Integrity in the Digital Age”, NEC 2026 highlights the need for technological advancements, including artificial intelligence (AI), automation and digitalisation, to progress alongside professional integrity, ethics and accountability.
The convention was officially launched by Minister of Works YB Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who also introduced LJM’s representative logo and presented the LJM President’s Awards.
Over the four-day event, 12 high-impact programmes are being held, covering seminars, professional forums, workshops, engagement sessions and engineering talent development programmes.

Key areas of focus include cybersecurity, AI, engineering education transformation, occupational safety and health (OSH), continuing professional development (CPD), environmental, social and governance (ESG) and the outlook for the engineering industry over the next decade.
Young talent is also being given prominence through the Future Engineering Talents Gateway and BEM Young Engineering Innovation Trophy, providing students with opportunities to showcase innovations and engineering solutions to address real-world challenges.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, NEC 2026 serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the government, industry, academia and professional bodies in developing competent, ethical and innovative engineers prepared to lead the country’s digital future and sustainable development. – The Capital Post
