IPOH, 24 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) concluded its 2026 Geosite and Geopark Management and Governance Strengthening Course with field-based learning and a certificate presentation in Ipoh, Perak.
The fourth day of the course on 23 August 2026 gave participants the opportunity to observe first-hand the management, conservation and potential of geosites within the Kinta Valley Geopark.
Participants visited the Kinta Valley Geopark Information Centre and Kinta Valley Geopark Community Gallery to learn about the area’s geological and biodiversity resources, as well as community involvement in geopark development.
The field programme also included a visit to the Tasik Cermin Dolina Geosite, providing participants with direct exposure to its geological heritage and karst landscape.
Participants later attended a safety briefing before visiting the Gua Tempurung Karst Geosite, highlighting the importance of safety and geosite conservation.

The course concluded with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation at Travelodge Ipoh Hotel, officiated by NRES Mineral and Geoscience Division Secretary YBrs. Tuan Haji Shamsul Shahril Badliza bin Mohd Noor.
NRES said the knowledge and experience gained throughout the course were expected to contribute towards more effective, integrity-driven and sustainable management of geosites and geoparks to preserve the country’s natural heritage for future generations.
