SEOUL, 9 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and South Korea are strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, with discussions focusing on the FA-50M programme, technology transfer and opportunities to expand collaboration across the defence industry.
Defence Ministry Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Lokman Hakim bin Ali held a courtesy meeting with South Korean Vice Minister of National Defense H.E. Lee Doo-Hee on Tuesday (8 September), on the sidelines of the Seoul Defence Dialogue (SDD) 2026.
The meeting provided a platform for both sides to exchange views on developments in the regional and global security environment while exploring ways to deepen Malaysia-South Korea defence relations.
Discussions focused on the implementation and continuity of the FA-50M programme, including logistics support, maintenance and supply sustainability throughout the assets’ life cycle.
Both sides also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in aerospace, maritime, land systems and the wider defence industry.

Potential cooperation through the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) was also discussed, particularly in supporting technology transfer, developing local vendors and strengthening Malaysia’s defence industry capabilities.
The meeting reflected both countries’ commitment to building defence cooperation based on trust, reliability and mutual benefit while contributing to regional peace and stability.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Defence Malaysia, the engagement also supports efforts to develop a more resilient Malaysian defence industry ecosystem and strengthen the country’s defence capabilities. – The Capital Post
