SIBU, 10 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – National Unity Minister YB Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang has called for mutual respect and understanding across Malaysia’s diverse religious, cultural and social backgrounds as he officiated the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 (MPC2026) in Sibu on Thursday.

The national-level Catholic gathering brought together 850 participants from nine dioceses across three regions — Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Held under the theme “Celebrate, Listen, Walk Together”, MPC2026 provides a platform to celebrate diversity, strengthen mutual understanding and encourage respectful dialogue among participants.

Aaron said unity in Malaysia’s multireligious and multicultural society does not require people to set aside their individual identities.

Instead, unity is strengthened when different identities are respected, differences are celebrated and people are willing to listen to and understand one another.

The convention reflects efforts to foster respect, understanding and appreciation while contributing towards a peaceful, harmonious and inclusive society.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of National Unity, Malaysians may have different identities and backgrounds but share common aspirations and a collective future as a nation. – The Capital Post
