PUTRAJAYA, 14 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) is looking to strengthen Malaysia’s agricommodity sector within the halal ecosystem by expanding downstream activities, developing value-added products and identifying companies with halal export potential.
Plantation and Commodities Minister YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad highlighted the sector’s potential after attending a Halal Industry Development Council (MPIH) meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday.
The meeting discussed the direction, coordination and monitoring of Malaysia’s halal industry ecosystem as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s position as a global halal industry leader.
KPK said it supports efforts to boost investment in the domestic halal sector and sees significant potential for agricommodities to play a greater role, particularly through downstream development and the production of value-added products.
The ministry is prepared to work with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and relevant agencies to identify agricommodity products and companies that could be developed into halal exporters.

The proposed efforts include capacity-building programmes, trade promotion and business matching to expand the reach of Malaysian agricommodity products into targeted markets.
KPK Secretary-General YBhg. Dato’ Yusran Shah bin Mohd Yusof also attended the meeting.
