KOTA KINABALU, 26 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has launched the National Defence Literacy initiative to strengthen public understanding of national security, sovereignty and the shared responsibility of safeguarding the country.
The launch, held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), carries the aspiration “Pertahanan Negara Tanggungjawab Bersama: Celik Pertahanan, Kedaulatan Diperkasa”.
The initiative seeks to promote greater defence awareness among civil servants and the wider community, extending beyond understanding the role of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).
MINDEF said national security, sovereignty and resilience require collective participation involving the government, security agencies, educational institutions, industries and the broader public.
The launch in Sabah also marked the beginning of the nationwide implementation of the CAKNA PERTAHANAN initiative, based on a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society (WoGoS) approach.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening connections between the defence sector and society while encouraging broader participation in matters relating to national defence and security.
The programme also featured Bicara Pahlawan, bringing together prominent figures, military leaders, veterans and national heroes to share experiences and values centred on sacrifice, courage, leadership and patriotism with current and future generations.
