KUANTAN, 29 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – The IMT-GT TVET Forum 2026 is bringing together policymakers, technical and vocational education institutions, rail industry players, researchers and international partners to strengthen talent development for the region’s future rail sector.
The forum, organised by the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) through the Manpower Department (JTM), is being held at Swiss-Belhotel Kuantan under the theme “Empowering TVET for Next-Generation Rail Systems and Future Rail Technologies”.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus bin Akbar Khan delivered special remarks during the welcoming dinner on 28 September.
Also present was KESUMA Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) Dr. Hj. Mohd Shaharin bin Umar.
Held under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) framework, the forum focuses on strengthening technical and vocational capabilities to support the transformation of the rail industry across the region.

Key areas include future workforce requirements linked to rail technology developments such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), automation and smart maintenance.
The programme also provides a platform for participants to exchange expertise, experience and industry perspectives to ensure skills development remains aligned with technological changes and emerging workforce needs.
The welcoming dinner featured traditional performances and a networking session aimed at strengthening cooperation among participating delegations.
