PUTRAJAYA, 1 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The government is reviewing proposals to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of Bumiputera contractors, including financing facilities, improved project implementation mechanisms and greater exposure to technology.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim held an engagement session with the Persatuan Kontraktor Bumiputera Malaysia to hear directly about challenges and proposals from industry players. His current Finance Minister role is listed by the Ministry of Finance.
Discussions covered cash flow and working capital constraints, rising construction material costs, financing requirements and challenges related to project implementation.
The government said it was open to examining suitable financing facilities and more effective mechanisms for project implementation.
Training programmes and greater exposure to technology were also among the proposals being considered to improve contractors’ capabilities and competitiveness.

Finance Minister II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican also attended the engagement. Their current positions are listed by the Ministry of Finance.
The Ministry of Finance said feedback from industry players would continue to serve as an important input in shaping government policies and measures affecting the construction sector.
