KUALA TERENGGANU, 6 November 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is assessing 4G and 5G network coverage along Phase 1 of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) to ensure reliable telecommunications services ahead of the project’s official operations.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching participated in a cellular network coverage testing session along the ECRL alignment in Kuala Terengganu on Friday.

The exercise aimed to evaluate telecommunications readiness and identify areas requiring improvements before the railway begins operations.

MCMC will continue monitoring network performance and implementing measures to strengthen 4G and 5G connectivity along the railway corridor.

The initiative is intended to ensure that future ECRL passengers have access to more stable, consistent and reliable telecommunications services throughout their journeys.
