PUTRAJAYA 16 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex as part of his official visit to Malaysia aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

He arrived at approximately 9.56am and was received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before inspecting a guard of honour mounted by members of the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

The visit, which runs from April 15 to 17, is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation between both countries, particularly in areas such as energy security, amid ongoing global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Both leaders are scheduled to hold a restricted meeting to discuss key issues, including the impact of disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz and strategies to ensure stable energy supplies.

A joint statement on energy security is also anticipated following the discussions, reflecting both nations’ commitment to maintaining reliable energy flows during periods of global volatility.

In addition, Malaysia and Australia are set to witness the exchange of a memorandum of understanding on the Strategic Halal Red Meat Partnership, aimed at improving cooperation in food security and streamlining halal certification processes.

Following official engagements, Albanese is scheduled to attend a luncheon hosted in his honour at the Seri Perdana Complex.

Australia remains one of Malaysia’s key trading partners, with strong bilateral ties supported by significant energy interdependence, including liquefied natural gas supply and fuel trade between the two nations.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen economic collaboration and address shared challenges in an increasingly uncertain global environment. -The Capital Post
