KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The upcoming China-United States (US) Summit could inject greater certainty into an increasingly volatile world while strengthening bilateral relations, according to an article published by China Global Television Network (CGTN).
CGTN reported that, as announced by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, US President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to China from May 13 to 15 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to CGTN, outcomes of head-of-state diplomacy between the two countries could help stabilise bilateral relations while contributing to global development and governance.
CGTN interviews with experts showed a common view that head-of-state diplomacy has long served as the “anchor” of stability in bilateral ties. Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, Wu Xinbo, said such diplomacy “sets the tone and defines the direction” of bilateral relations.
Wu also noted that as the world’s two major technological powers, China and the US have the capacity to generate “win-win outcomes” through practical cooperation, supporting broader global growth and scientific progress.
Likewise, Vice Dean of the University of International Business and Economics, Cui Fan, emphasised that both countries share responsibility for maintaining stability in global governance.
CGTN noted that this year provides an opportunity for such cooperation to be tested, with China hosting APEC and the US hosting the G20 Leaders’ Summit, creating room for coordination on global recovery, food and energy security, debt risks, and governance reform.
Over the past year, the two leaders have maintained communication through phone calls and a face-to-face meeting in Busan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), helping prevent major miscalculations and maintain overall stability in relations.
Since 2025, under the strategic consensus reached by both heads of state, economic teams from both sides have held multiple rounds of talks, while large-scale tariff escalation has been paused, with another round of consultations scheduled in the ROK from May 12 to 13.
CGTN also highlighted renewed people-to-people exchanges, including events marking the 55th anniversary of China-US “Ping-Pong Diplomacy”, involving hundreds of young Chinese and Americans in sports and cultural activities.
The world will closely watch the upcoming summit to see how Beijing and Washington translate Xi’s call for mutual trust, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation into concrete action.- BERNAMA
