KUALA LUMPUR, 25 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Tunas Utama (Chinatown 1974) is set to give Jalan Petaling a fresh commercial and tourism identity by combining the area’s historical and cultural character with a modern visitor experience.
Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong visited the UDA Holdings Berhad strategic asset on 24 September to view the transformation of the site.
Built around the concept of “Moving Through Time”, Chinatown 1974 draws inspiration from the atmosphere of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown in the 1970s while positioning Jalan Petaling as a destination for commerce, culture and tourism.

Sim said the transformation demonstrated how existing assets could be optimised to create productive economic spaces that remain relevant to current needs, while supporting entrepreneurship and stimulating the urban economy.
The initiative is also aligned with KUSKOP’s ABCD Strategy, particularly efforts to expand market access, empower entrepreneurs and create more productive economic opportunities.
Also present were KUSKOP Secretary-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, UDA Holdings Berhad Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Menara Rezeki Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director Dato’ Seri Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff, as well as senior management representatives from KUSKOP and its agencies.
