Covid-19: Daily cases dip slightly with 2,033 new infections

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 2,033 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday (June 16), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,534,665 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that all of Thursday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions.

The portal also reported that 1,337 individuals recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,474,358 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 24,577 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 23,573 individuals, or 95.9%, observing home quarantine and 13, or 0.1%, being treated at Quarantine and Treatment Centres throughout the country.

Some 959 Covid-19 cases, or 3.9%, have been hospitalised and 32 patients, or 0.2% of active cases, are being treated in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, with 18 requiring ventilator support.

The CovidNow portal also reported that the overall ICU utilisation rate in Malaysia now stands at 60.7% while the usage rate for Covid-19 patients is 7.3%.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there were five deaths due to Covid-19 on Thursday, including three classified as brought-in-dead.

Three of the Covid-19 deaths were reported in Perak, while the remaining two were in Johor.

This brings the total number of fatalities in the country due to Covid-19 to 35,730 since the pandemic began.-The Star
