Masidi, who is the state’s Covid-19 spokesman, noted that this was vital for the Sabah health department to increase the vaccination momentum.

As of yesterday, 40.8% of Sabah’s adult population (or 1,126,236 people) had been fully vaccinated while 59.8% (or 1.6 million people) had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

“The average daily vaccination target for September has been set at 60,000 doses,” he said in a text message today.

“As such, we hope to receive 2,889,150 doses of vaccine this month to enable the health department to increase the vaccination rate.”

Meanwhile, Masidi said the number of daily infections had gone down in Sabah but still remained high with 2,329 cases recorded over the past 24 hours. This is only 101 fewer cases compared to yesterday’s number.

The highest number of infections was recorded in the state capital (458), followed by Sandakan (281), Penampang (181), Papar (168) and Tuaran (149).

Masidi said that of the 2,329 cases, 37.7% or 878 cases were registered two to three days late while another 132 cases were four to five days late. He added that 219 cases were registered more than five days after the test results were known.

Masidi said close contacts contributed to almost 60% of the infections while symptomatic screenings stood at 28.3%.-FMT
