KUALA LUMPUR 6 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – A 32-year-old man who gained attention online for driving against the flow of traffic along Old Klang Road has been sentenced to three days in jail and fined RM6,000 after pleading guilty to reckless and dangerous driving.

The accused appeared before the Magistrate’s Court here on Monday and admitted to committing the offence under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In addition to the fine, the court ordered his driving licence to be suspended for five years.

The case stemmed from a viral video showing the vehicle being driven the wrong way on a busy stretch of road, endangering other road users before the man surrendered himself to police at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department office the previous night.

Authorities had earlier confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident, with breathalyser and urine tests returning negative results. Investigators also noted that the wrong-way driving occurred after the man reportedly took a wrong turn while heading towards a nearby shopping centre.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which traffic offences that jeopardise public safety are treated, as officials continue to urge motorists to adhere strictly to road rules. -The Capital Post
