LABU, 6 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) is strengthening efforts to promote sustainable livestock practices through continuous monitoring and collaboration with industry players, following a working visit by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to QL Poultry Farms Sdn. Bhd.

The visit was led by KPKM Secretary-General Datuk Seri Isham Ishak and accompanied by DVS Director-General Datuk Dr Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Haron together with DVS officers.

The visit aimed to assess the effectiveness of the RM15 million odour mitigation and control system implemented by the company following recommendations, enforcement measures and continuous monitoring by DVS.

Also present were KPKM Food Security Division Secretary Jazman Azi Jamalludin and representatives from KPKM, as well as Negeri Sembilan Department of Environment (JAS) Director Abdul Aziz Parmin and JAS officers.

DVS said the poultry farm has implemented several proactive measures, including a four-stage comprehensive odour control system involving feather and dust filtration, water curtain technology to reduce ammonia, hypochlorous acid (HClO) misting and 3D deodorising mesh filtration.

The company has also introduced six compost towers using Japanese technology to improve waste processing capacity and reduce ammonia emissions, alongside an online odour monitoring system with a digital dashboard to track ammonia (NH₃) levels in real time for immediate corrective action.

DVS monitoring and audits found that the modern ventilation and control systems have maintained ammonia concentration levels at the farm boundary below approximately 5 ppm, significantly lower than the DVS standard requirement of below 20 ppm.

The department said the measures have helped minimise odour impact on nearby residential areas while supporting a balance between livestock industry growth, environmental sustainability and community well-being.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Jabatan Perkhidmatan Veterinar, DVS together with KPKM will continue strengthening monitoring efforts and strategic cooperation to ensure the national livestock industry remains sustainable while supporting food security and environmental protection. -The Capital Post.
