KUALA LUMPUR, June 3, 2026 (The Capital Post) – According to information shared on the official Facebook page of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, efforts to build a knowledgeable and progressive society must begin with a strong reading culture supported by greater access to quality reading materials.
Representing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Fadhlina officiated the International Symposium on Libraries, Translation and Artificial Intelligence (LITR.AI) 2026, where she highlighted the importance of knowledge as the foundation of a great civilisation.
She said the MADANI Government continues to strengthen literacy initiatives through the continuation of the book voucher programme benefiting secondary school students under the Ministry of Education and students in higher education institutions.
In addition, the government has allocated RM10 million for the provision of quality reading materials for preschool children as part of efforts to nurture reading habits from an early age.
Fadhlina noted that access to reading materials alone is insufficient, stressing that librarians play a crucial role in ensuring libraries and educational resources remain accessible and relevant to the public.
