Fire Dept team rescues viper-bite victim

KUALA BERANG, Oct 23 — A Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) personnel was rescued by a fire and rescue team after he was bitten by a pit viper in the Sekayu Forest Reserve here yesterday.

Kuala Berang Fire and Rescue Station chief Hanaffi Mohd said the victim, Muhammad Imran Khasimin Kamarul Zaman, 24, was bitten on his left ankle while in a training session at the forest reserve.

“Eight personnel were rushed to the scene soon after the station was alerted of the incident at 3.50 pm It took them over four hours to get the victim out of the area.

“Our men had to walk some six-kilometre distance going through the thick jungle to locate the victim as there is no vehicle path in the forest,” he said when contacted today.

However Hanaffi said the victim was in stable condition and was carried out on a stretcher adding that the operation ended at 8.30pm and the victim was sent to hospital for further treatment. – BERNAMA
