KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance has nominated Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Sabah (Bersatu) chief Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor (pic) as its candidate for chief minister.
This came after senior Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional leaders arrived at the Magellan Sutera Harbour hotel to meet GRS partners, Sabah STAR and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).
“We have received the people’s mandate and we will carry out our responsibilities to serve them,” said Hajiji in a press conference announcing the decision on Monday (Sept 28).
Earlier Monday, Sabah Barisan chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin arrived at t the Magellan Sutera Harbour hotel here, followed by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday (Sept 29), but it is learned that leaders are insisting for it to be done today (Sept 28).
A GRS assemblyman, when met before the meeting, said there was “no reason” to delay the ceremony.
“Why couldn’t it be done today? After all, it isn’t a holiday,” the assemblyman said. -The Star
