PUTRAJAYA, Feb 3 — The study on the proposal to introduce an election for the Kuala Lumpur mayor’s post is being undertaken by a reputable university, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.

She said the research has been conducted by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) since last December, following the tabling of a private member’s bill by Members of Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat.

“There is no cause for concern as the study is being carried out by IIUM, a reputable institution. This research is not being conducted by DAP members, but by IIUM, and I have full confidence in the quality of their work,” she told a press conference after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Territories Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission here today.

Hannah added that once the study is completed, the findings will be reviewed by the Cabinet before a decision is made on whether the proposal is suitable for implementation.
