KUALA LUMPUR 12 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- The Immigration Department of Malaysia has raised concerns over foreigners abusing social visit passes by engaging in employment activities, a move that violates Malaysian immigration laws.
Authorities noted that some individuals entering the country on short-term social passes have been found working in various sectors without proper work permits, undermining regulatory controls and the local labour framework.
The department said it is intensifying inspections and enforcement operations to detect and address cases of illegal employment among social visit pass holders. Employers found hiring such individuals could also face penalties under existing immigration regulations.

Officials urged all foreign visitors to comply with the terms of their entry passes and for employers to ensure proper documentation before hiring expatriates or foreign workers.
The department highlighted that stricter enforcement is necessary to protect both legal foreign workers and the integrity of Malaysia’s employment and immigration systems.-The Capital Post
