JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested three local men for rioting and causing damage to public property at Jalan Abdullah Tahir here.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said they received information about a viral video, which recorded a group of men rioting at the scene on Thursday (March 30).
“I can confirm that the incident took place during the wee hours of Wednesday (March 29) where two male victims, aged between 44 and 29, lodged a police report on the same day.
“The victims were assaulted with a baseball bat and a piece of wood where one victim suffered scratch marks on his face while the other complained of abdomen and head pain,” he said here on Friday (March 31).
Comm Kamarul Zaman added a patrol car unit from Johor Baru South police district headquarters immediately went to the scene and arrested the three suspects, aged between 23 and 26, at around 5.15am.
He said seven other suspects fled the scene in a Proton Gen 2 and Toyota Vios.
“We are in the midst of tracking down the other suspects,” he said, adding that the three suspects were being remanded until April 2 to assist with the investigations.
