KUALA LUMPUR, 14 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Works (KKR) has identified road maintenance works worth RM8.095 million along Federal Routes FT198 and FT203 in Jeli, Kelantan, as part of efforts to improve road conditions and safety.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Maslan disclosed the details during the Dewan Rakyat Special Chamber sitting on Tuesday (13 October), in response to a question from Jeli Member of Parliament Zahari Kechik.

For FT198, the ministry has identified four periodic pavement maintenance works covering 10.5 kilometres, valued at RM6.14 million, alongside road marking works spanning 12.5 kilometres at an estimated cost of RM455,000.

Meanwhile, one pavement maintenance project covering one kilometre along FT203 has been identified, with an estimated cost of RM1.5 million.

However, the implementation of these works remains subject to funding approval from the Ministry of Finance and prioritisation based on road damage assessments conducted by the Public Works Department (JKR).

On road lighting, Ahmad said RM3.27 million had been allocated in 2026 for the installation of streetlights at 35 selected locations across Kelantan.

Of these, solar-powered streetlights have been installed at six locations within the Jeli parliamentary constituency at a total cost of RM550,000.

This includes an installation along FT198 at Jalan Bukit Telaga Bijih–Kampung Air Chanal, costing RM50,000.

The ministry has also acknowledged the need for additional street lighting along FT203, particularly between Kampung Legeh and the Kampung Sungai Satan junction.

The proposed installation will be considered for inclusion in future street lighting programmes, subject to development funding approval.

KKR said JKR would continue monitoring and maintaining federal roads, with priority given to locations identified as having higher accident risks.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia, the ministry remains focused on improving road safety and user comfort through planned maintenance, infrastructure upgrades and targeted street lighting installations – The Capital Post
