KUALA LUMPUR, 29 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) is accelerating the transformation of Malaysia’s pepper industry through smart farming technologies, value-added downstream products and stronger export standards to boost global competitiveness.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Perladangan dan Komoditi – KPK, Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said during the Special Chamber session in Parliament that technologies such as fertigation systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), hyperspectral drones, and the Dr.LADA and LadaGo applications are helping improve productivity, reduce fertiliser costs by up to 50 per cent and minimise crop losses caused by plant diseases.
He said the ministry is also strengthening the industry’s ecosystem through the development of export-grade processing infrastructure, international food safety certification and the finalisation of new regulations to safeguard the quality of Sarawak Pepper as a premium Geographical Indication (GI) product.

The initiative is expected to protect the interests of more than 39,000 smallholder pepper farmers nationwide while enhancing the industry’s long-term sustainability and export potential. – The Capital Post.
